The Embassy of Finland in Cyprus was opened in July 2004, after Cyprus became a member of the European Union. Earlier relations with Cyprus were taken care of from Israel by accreditation.
The Embassy of Finland works in close cooperation with the Embassy of Sweden. Both embassies were opened at the same time and operate in the same premises. Some of the employees work for both embassies.
The Embassy of Finland in Nicosia serves the whole Finnish society - various governmental authorities, citizens and business, industry and commerce.
The Embassy actively follows the efforts to solve the Cyprus problem, and keeps close contact with both the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities of the island, making good use of the trust and interest that is felt towards Finland. Finland aims at working towards minimising the problems caused by the division.
The Embassy makes active efforts to further develop the EU partnership between Finland and Cyprus and to promote Finland's goals in the EU.
The Embassy promotes deeper relations between Finland and Cyprus by mutual exchange of visits and other contacts, and by raising awareness about Finland through information and culture.
The Embassy keeps contact with Finnish citizens living in Cyprus, and offers them, as well as the Finnish tourists visiting the island, efficient and proficient service. Customer services to our citizens play an important role in the activities of the Embassy.
The Embassy assists within its resources Finnish business life by responding to inquiries about the economy and business of the host state and, upon request, further assisting in creating connections between Finnish and Cypriot industry and commerce.
We hope that everybody feels free to contact the Embassy. We also encourage all Finnish citizens to inform the Embassy about their stay on the island.
